Hey everyone!
Since BEACHED will not be out until late Jan/early Feb I thought a nice X-mas gift would be some more preview sketches.
This is mostly concept art, however Suiyu and Wyeth are pretty much set design-wise. I'm still developing the other characters but I kinda do that as I draw them. I do like this sketchy style, so the illustrations will most likely be done in a similar fashion, but more detailed(if that makes sense).
The hardest part was actually figuring out how to depict Suiyu in his merman form . . . fun, but tricky. His tailfin resembles that of butterfly koi(I'm still fiddling around with his coloration but it will be a mix of yellows and oranges). Apparently, fish collectors don't consider them true koi because of their elongated fins but I think they are prettier than the normal ones.
Anyway, I did these sketches with this awesome erasable pen I found(Pilot Frixion 0.5 ball pen). It erases cleanly with friction because the ink is heat sensitive. It disappears in high temps but reappears if you stick the paper in the freezer(It's kinda fun to play around with
).

These appear to be very interesting characters. I think they could be part of a fighting game, like Street Fighter or King of Fighters. It's curious, the way you draw the mermaid tail resembles to the way I would draw it, with more or less random strokes. Funny to find someone with a similar drawing style
